Aid for Women helps thousands of women each year throughout the Chicago metropolitan area who are facing unexpected or difficult pregnancies. We operate four pregnancy care centers and and two residential programs (see Locations). Our life-affirming services are offered free-of-charge and include:
Aid for Women provides a 24-hour helpline and textline so that women facing crisis pregnancies can receive help and support 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. We are deeply grateful to OptionLine for their partnership in providing this critical service.
Each client is provided with compassionate counseling as well as the emotional, practical and spiritual support she needs to feel empowered and secure in her decision to choose life for her unborn baby. We discuss the development of her baby, abortion procedures and risks, adoption possibilities as well as address the underlying issues which are making her pregnancy decision difficult. Many clients also come to us in need of hope and healing from past abortions. We help the client address these issues, while guiding and supporting her in her pregnancy and in developing a plan for her future and that of her baby.
PREGNANCY TESTS AND ULTRASOUND EXAMS
Following a pregnancy test at one of our centers, a limited obstetrical ultrasound exam is available to the client after the seventh week of pregnancy. The ultrasound exams allows us to determine the fetal age as well as rule out an ectopic pregnancy. The ultrasound exam also allows the client to observe her baby’s heartbeat and movements while we continue to talk about the development of her child.
ABORTION PILL REVERSAL
Most women who immediately have regret after taking the abortion pill have no idea that, if they act quickly, the effects of the abortion pill can be reversed, and they can still have a healthy baby. We are working diligently on outreach so that more women will know this life-saving procedure is available to them through our pregnancy care centers.
MEDICAL AND COMMUNITY REFERRALS
Our clients come to us with many different material, physical and emotional needs — including housing, food, employment, healthcare and relationship issues. Aid for Women has established partnerships with a network of medical and community agencies, including Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of Chicago and Presence Resurrection Health Care, which allows us to better address and serve the needs of our clients and their families.
EARN WHILE YOU LEARN PROGRAM (EWYL)
Aid for Women clients are invited to join the Earn While Your Learn Program (EWYL). By participating in this exciting and unique program, clients gain valuable knowledge about pregnancy, childbirth, parenting and life skills — all while earning new baby items along the way!
MOMS-TO-BE SUPPORT GROUPS
Our support groups meet regularly and provide an opportunity for clients to meet one another and receive ongoing support from Aid for Women throughout their pregnancies and beyond. Discussion topics include parenting, self-care, growing in faith and more!
